At the start of 2020, the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19) began to spread throughout Pennsylvania. We quickly reacted to the virus and guidelines issued by the CDC and worked to mitigate the spread of the virus at Viwinco. A 2-week closure, updates to our ventilation system, daily testing, a thermal temperature gate, social distancing and mandatory mask wearing were some of the the changes we made. The COVID-19 virus quickly impacted the global supply chain and the way business was conducted worldwide. This exposed vulnerabilities within the supply chain and the acquisition of material from our suppliers became a struggle and quantities varied daily. Simultaneously, product demand skyrocketed due to us performing significantly better than the competition and to a number of economic factors such as: historically low mortgage rates, and families redirecting vacation funds and travel expenses to improving their homes.
At the start of 2021, Viwinco breaks ground on a new state-of-the-art 70,000 sq ft glass facility in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. The new Viwinco glass facility will house the industry's latest and most innovative glass processing machinery to increase glass capacity and allow for expansion of vinyl production and shipping space in the main manufacturing plant across the street. The building has an estimated completion target set for the end of the first quarter of 2022.
