How to Replace the Pivot Bar on Your Viwinco Window

How to Replace the Pivot Bar on Your Viwinco Window

If you’ve noticed difficulty operating your window sash or if the sash won’t stay properly seated, the pivot bar may need to be replaced. The pivot bar connects your window sash to the balance system and ensures smooth tilting and closing operation. This step-by-step guide shows you how to properly remove and replace a Viwinco window pivot bar.

Signs of a Bent Pivot Bar

Before beginning the replacement process, check for these common symptoms of a bent pivot bar:

  • The sash is difficult to tilt inward for cleaning
  • Operating the sash feels resistant or strained
  • When removing the sash, it gets stuck on one or both sides

Tools You’ll Need:

  • Phillips head screwdriver (to replace the pivot bar)
  • Flathead screwdriver (for alignment)

Step 1: Prepare the Window

Unlock the window and raise a few inches above the  sill. Then  carefully tilt the sash inward. Once tilted, gently lift and lower the sash until it forms a 90° angle with the sill. This will give you access to the pivot bar area.

Step 2: Remove the Sash

Firmly but carefully pull the sash upward to free it from the balance receiver and remove it from the frame. Rest the sash gently on the floor or a table to prepare for the next step.

Step 3: Remove the Pivot Bar

Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two larger screws at the top of the pivot bar. Then, unscrew the smaller side screw that anchors the pivot bar into the sash. Remove the pivot bar.

Step 4: Install the New Pivot Bar

Align the new pivot bar so that the alignment plate lines up with the side screw hole. Reinstall the small side screw, followed by the two top screws. Tighten all screws firmly to ensure the new pivot bar is secure.

Step 5: Replace the Sash

Before placing the sash back into the sill, ensure that the pivot bar receiver is aligned properly. If the pivot bar receiver inside the window frame has rotated or isn’t properly aligned, use a flathead screwdriver to carefully turn it so it will accept the new pivot bar.

Step 6: Reinstall the Sash

Once the receiver is aligned, return the sash to the window frame. Make sure the new pivot bar seats firmly into the receiver before attempting to close the window. This helps prevent damage to the pivot pin and ensures proper function.
