Giving Back – Viwinco’s Annual Turkey Giveaway 2024

Last week, we came together for one of our favorite Viwinco traditions—our annual Turkey Giveaway! This cherished event has been part of Viwinco’s culture since sometime in the 90s—though no one quite remembers the exact year—and it’s something we all look forward to each year. As a family-owned company, this tradition holds a special place for our owners and team. It’s an opportunity to celebrate, connect, and give back to our employees and community. 

Turkey Giveaway 2024

This year, we ordered close to 386 fresh turkeys from Loag’s Corner Turkey Farm in Elverson. Supporting local businesses is important to us, and we take pride in knowing these turkeys are of high quality and sourced nearby. For employees who live outside the area, we ensured they could still participate by sending vouchers to pick up their turkeys closer to home. 

In true Viwinco spirit, we made sure to order extra turkeys to share with a local charity or cause. This year, we donated around 48 turkeys to Iglesia Cristiana Casa de Dios y Puerta del Cielo (Christian Church House of God and Gate of Heaven) in Reading, PA. One of our drivers, Braulio Vasquez, who is actively involved with the church, personally picked up and delivered the turkeys. Since the turkeys were fresh, Braulio continued his day by delivering an additional 50 turkeys to a sister church and directly to some homes. The donated turkeys were distributed to families in need, brightening the holiday season for many in the Reading area. 

Braulio and his wife are truly dedicated to giving back. Through their church, they consistently gather food, gently used clothing, and hygiene items for families in need. These supplies are distributed locally in Reading and Philadelphia and sent to the Dominican Republic to support families there. Braulio shared how helping others brings him immense joy, and he’s always seeking new ways to make a difference. 

For those who wish to contribute, we’ve set up a donation box in the plant lunchroom for gently used clothing, canned or dry goods, and hygiene products like diapers. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful impact. 

At Viwinco, this tradition is about more than just turkeys—it’s about family, gratitude, and giving back.
