Sealant Materials

Refer to sealant manufacturer for information on performance specifications and characteristics of material before using.

Sealant material used must be able to adhere to PVC and the building materials which it contacts to form a seal.
The surfaces that will come in contact with the sealant material must be cleaned and free of debris for maximum performance. Further preparation of the building surfaces may be necessary (check with sealant manufacturer for recommendations). The only Viwinco-approved spray foam for installation is Henkel’s OSI® QUAD® MAX™ system and products.

Consult manufacturer’s directions for application and usage of sealant material.

Sealant material must meet these minimum specifications:

Hardness (Durometer)

Using Shims

Various shims can be used to shim Viwinco windows: square-and horseshoe-shaped plastic and wedge-shaped wood

When shimming with wedge-shaped wood shims, two must be used. Do not use single wedge shims as they will distort the window frame. Place the large end of the first shim away from you. Next, place the second shim, with the large end toward you, on top of the first shim. Carefully push the second shim back toward the large end of the first shim until the top surface meets the window frame.

Flashing Materials

Different types of flashing may be used with new construction installations. Be sure the flashing used maintains a constant minimum width, 6” for adhesive-backed flashing and 9” for non-adhesive types.

Check local building codes for the type of flashing applicable for your area. Apply the flashing first, then add accessories and trim over the flashing.

Using Shims

Various shims can be used to shim Viwinco windows: square-and horseshoe-shaped plastic, fiberboard, and wedge-shaped wood.

When shimming with wedge-shaped wood shims, two must be used. Do not use single wedge shims as they will distort the window frame. Place the large end of the first shim away from you. Next, place the second shim, with the large end toward you, on top of the first shim.
