OceanView Impact Resistant Spotlight
When it comes to impact-resistant windows and doors, few products offer the level of protection and customization provided by the Viwinco OceanView series. These windows and doors are specifically designed to safeguard homes in hurricane-prone regions, combining robust engineering with versatile design options. Manufactured in-house, Viwinco OceanView products are meticulously crafted to meet the unique demands of coastal environments. Here’s an in-depth look at what makes the Viwinco OceanView Line a top choice for your next project.

How Impact Windows Protect Your Home
Impact windows are engineered to minimize the risk of your home being breached by windborne debris during powerful storms, such as hurricanes. This protection is crucial, as a breach in your windows can compromise the entire building envelope. When the envelope is breached, water and air pressure can rapidly accumulate inside your home. Without a means to equalize this pressure, the force can lead to catastrophic damage, such as blown-out windows, doors, or even a collapsed roof or walls. Viwinco OceanView impact windows are engineered to endure severe impacts, While the exterior tempered glass may shatter, the laminated interior glass is designed to crack but remain intact due to the Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB) interlayer, effectively, preventing dangerous pressure buildup.
Engineered to Protect
The Viwinco OceanView product line is engineered to protect and built to impress. Our impact products feature a 15/16″ Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) composed of a tempered exterior lite, a laminated interior lite, and an argon gas fill, all sealed by the super energy-efficient Duralite spacer system by Quanex. This IGU is housed within a robust, chambered vinyl frame, reinforced with aluminum rods, creating a sleek, durable, and highly efficient window system. All Viwinco Insulated Glass Units—including the OceanView impact glass package—are manufactured in our state-of-the-art glass facility, ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance. Our impact glass fabrication process includes the latest in insulated glass equipment and automation.
The laminated glass starts in the clean room, where the PVB sheet is cut to size to match the two clear glass lites. The operators then sandwich the three pieces together and load them into the Bürkle line, which is a series of three presses that adhere the glass to the PVB interlayer. As the glass comes off the line, the resulting product is a highly durable glass lite that is designed to remain intact when struck by airborne debris to protect the building envelope. The laminated lite is then loaded onto the Erdman automated IGU lines where it is paired up with an exterior-facing tempered lite, and assembled into an IGU.
Tempered glass—also referred to as safety glass—is annealed glass that has been heat strengthened. Not only is it 4-5 times stronger than annealed glass, but when tempered glass is broken, it no longer breaks into sharp pieces. It now shatters into tiny cubes referred to as “dice” which are much safer than broken annealed glass. The tempered glass lite is commonly referred to as the sacrificial glass lite because it faces the exterior of the home and if struck by windborne debris, the tempered lite will take much of the initial impact force and shatter. When paired together, the laminated and tempered glass result in a truly impressive glass package.

Beyond Safety: Additional Benefits of Impact Windows

The Viwinco OceanView impact-resistant product line not only offers superior protection but also enhances your home’s thermal performance. The combination of the OceanView glass package and thermally efficient vinyl profiles significantly reduce the amount of ultraviolet light (heat) that enters your home, leading to noticeable reductions in your energy bills.
Moreover, impact windows can elevate the aesthetic appeal of your house, offering a sleek alternative to bulky shutter systems. Unlike shutters, impact windows are always functional and don’t require any setup before a storm. The laminated glass also greatly decreases sound transmission, which is ideal if you live in a noisy area. Additionally, impact windows can act as a deterrent to forced entry, and are even used in security-sensitive locations like banks and schools. One of the most valuable benefits of impact windows is the peace of mind they provide, knowing that your home and belongings are secure in the face of a hurricane.
