Erie Materials 50th Anniversary

Reaching a significant longevity milestone is a remarkable achievement when it comes to business. Erie Materials, one of our long-time partners known throughout the Northeast Coast, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. We want to take a moment to acknowledge their milestone and congratulate them on this achievement!  

Erie Materials

Erie Materials was started by Bob Neuman in 1973 in Syracuse, New York. The original location consisted of an old truck, a forklift and just three employees. By following Bob’s principle of “offering contractors quality products, at a competitive price, while providing the best service possible”, Erie Materials has expanded to nine locations to meet the needs of their customer base. Through these years, Erie Materials has remained a family-owned and operated building materials distributor, supplying products throughout Northern Pennsylvania and Upstate New York. 

Erie and Viwinco Partnership 

Viwinco and Erie’s partnership began back in the late nineties. At the start, we supplied CertainTeed windows to their Scranton location. After taking a trip to the Viwinco plant in Morgantown and meeting with our President David Barnes and General Manager Mike Duncan, we began to sell to the other six locations shortly after. David often states that “Viwinco’s goal is not necessarily to be the biggest window and door manufacturer, but to be the best”. Over the course of the partnership between Viwinco and Erie, the feedback and communication we maintain pushes us to be a better supplier and manufacturer to our end users. 

Erie Materials Customer Appreciation Events 

Erie Materials does a great job at educating its customer base and fostering communications between their vendors and end-users. One way in which they achieve this is by alternating between hosting a large expo, and branch-level customer appreciation events annually. Since the company hosted the Erie Material’s Expo at the Turningstone Casino in Syracuse, New York last year, this year they conducted Customer Appreciation Barbecues at each of their branches. Regardless of the event, this is always a great time for customers to meet face-to-face with suppliers and for suppliers to educate customers on their products or tell them what is new! Throughout May and June of this year, Viwinco attended customer appreciation barbecues at each Erie Materials location. We value the opportunity to support the Erie team and discuss all things Viwinco.

Fifty years in business is a significant milestone and is a rare occurrence for a family-owned business in this industry. Erie Materials has been a long-time customer of Viwinco and has challenged us throughout the years to perform at our best.
