2024 Trends for Windows and Doors

As we head into 2024, we can’t help but get excited about the innovative and stylish designs that will shape the window and door industry. We wanted to take some time to explore some of the trends that are set to make a significant impact in the coming years. Here are the trends that we anticipate to grow in popularity as we head into 2024!

Bringing Design Intent to Life

When it comes to windows and doors, integrating architectural elements into the design can enhance the overall aesthetics of a space. By incorporating unique and distinctive features, homeowners can create a truly personalized look that complements their home’s style. In 2024, homeowners aim to add character to their homes by including architectural elements such as transoms, mullions, and grids/grilles to add character and visual interest.

Transoms are inoperable picture units typically used above the primary window or door. These windows enhance the height of the opening and allow natural light to flood the room, while preserving the homeowner’s privacy. Additionally, transoms provide impressive thermal performance while inherently being low maintenance.

Mullions can be used to join multiple units together, allowing homeowners to combine different window styles for a unique look and added functionality. Viwinco offers integral mullions to provide a continuous head and sill when mulling casements, pictures and awning windows. Additionally, we offer structural mullions to join multiple windows and secure them to the rough opening of the home, we also utilize an H-Mull, which can be used to join multiple Edgemont replacement double-hung and picture units.

Grids/grilles and simulated divided lites (SDLs) allow homeowners to mimic the look of divided lights on their windows and doors. Traditionally used and commonly found in older homes, true divided lites are individual panes separated by muntins. SDLs achieve this look, while using a singular insulated glass unit, that provides much better thermal performance. SDLs add additional character and are common in historical properties. On Viwinco products, you can choose either flat or deluxe (contoured) grids inside the glass unit. This is ideal for achieving the divided lite look with the benefit of providing an easily cleanable glass surface. SDLs are adhered to the internal and external faces of the glass unit. These grant the most realistic divided lite appearance. Viwinco Grids and SDLs can come in a variety of patterns including; colonial, prairie, diamond and valance. Grids can also be colormatched to your windows/ doors.

Another way in which homeowners are expanding upon architectural elements in their homes are by exploring geometric shapes and large sizes for windows and doors. From arched windows to large sliding glass doors, unconventional shapes and sizes can transform the look and feel of a room, making it more inviting and visually stunning. These designs not only enhance the aesthetics of a space but also allow for better utilization of natural light and panoramic views. Large glass units are increasing in demand as they allow homeowners to better blend the inside of their homes with the natural surroundings outside. The indoor-outdoor lifestyle trend gained popularity over the past few years. Even now, as many remote workers have returned to their company offices, the desire for geometric windows—and larger units in general— continues to grow.

Personalize Your Home with Unique Features

When it comes to creating your dream home, every detail matters. From the color of the walls to the furniture, you want your home to reflect your unique style and personality. One area where you can truly personalize the look and feel of your home is with your windows and doors. Modern windows and doors are highly customizable and allow homeowners to add another layer of personalization to their homes. Here are some features and options homeowners are moving towards.

Customizing windows and doors to complement your home’s style is an excellent way to add a touch of personality to your living space. One way to create a truly personalized look is to add colors to your windows and doors. Using colors, you can complement or contrast design aesthetics inside and outside the home. Viwinco products are available in white, tan and clay solid extrusions, where both the inside and outside of the windows are the same color. We also offer black and bronze exterior laminates, for homeowners looking to make a bold statement. Our exterior laminates are comprised of multiple layers designed for color retention, thermal efficiency and durability, resulting in an industryleading performance.

Integrating smart home technology into window and door systems is another trend that can add convenience and sophistication to your home. On patio doors, Viwinco offers the Autoslide door automation system which can open or close your sliding patio door with the touch of a button. This is a great addition to any house where accessibility is a concern or where you are looking to emphasize an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. The Autoslide can be added to 2,3, and 4 panel patio door configurations.

Building a Sustainable Future

In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on sustainability and eco-consciousness in the construction industry. As we look towards the future, it becomes increasingly important to consider how to make our homes more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. One area where significant progress has been made is in the development of eco-friendly windows and doors.

With Viwinco, sustainability and performance go hand-in-hand. To start, vinyl/PVC is highly recyclable and can be re-processed to make entirely new products when your vinyl windows/doors reach the point of replacement. Additionally, vinyl is low-maintenance and long-lasting. Modern vinyl windows can last twenty years or more before needing to be replaced! In addition to sustainable products, we also practice sustainability in our processes to manufacture our windows and doors. Our manufacturing facility, draws power from over 7,800 solar panels, which power a significant portion of our facility!

Sustainability doesn’t end when our products leave our facility. However, Viwinco windows and doors are engineered to perform regardless of the climate zone in which they are installed. Our PVC is designed with Sunshield technology for enhanced thermal performance on the vinyl. Additionally, our profiles utilize more vinyl on average than our competitors, for enhanced structural integrity. Our glass insulated glass packages come standard with an argon gas fill and a Low-E glass coating. They are sealed using the Duralite spacer system by Quanex, contributing to premium performance. The orientation of the glass package is configured to provide the best performance in any climate. Looking Ahead

To wrap things up, many of the trends we see in 2024 are continuations of what we witnessed in 2023. Although not much has changed, we are seeing more of a shift where homeowners are no longer focused primarily on aesthetics alone, but are becoming more knowledgeable and aware of the performance aspect. This is not a surprise, as we continue into a period of strong inflation and economic uncertainty, where many homeowners are looking for ways to reduce household spending in areas such as utility bills. As we continue into 2024 and beyond, Viwinco looks forward to meeting the needs of our customers and maintaining our status as one of the most trusted names in the industry as we do it.
