Ty Pennington is an American T.V. host, designer, carpenter, and author. He is best known for his transformative work on HGTV as the host of ‘Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition’. Pennington has been building and designing homes for years and believes that a home needs to be more than a roof over your head, but instead somewhere you can live a better life. This is why he decided to undertake a new project: The NextGen, First-to-the Future Smart Home. This house brings in sustainable products and technology that make it energy efficient. Let us introduce you to homebuilding of the future!
The energy efficiency story of this home starts with high-performance spray foam insulation that expands to seal difficult spaces. This helps minimize drafts and reduce infiltration of airborne irritants into the home. Next, to strengthen the structural frame of the house, a continuous load path was created by connecting the frame from the foundation to the roof. Then, for added storm protection, the builders chose Viwinco OceanView windows which have a structural speed rating of 171 mph. Next, tankless water heaters were added, working in tandem with a hot water re-circulation system to reduce the overall water bill by 20%. Finally, a recyclable stone-coated steel roof was added, providing safety from wind and hail. Added to the roof was an array of solar panels to generate electricity and heat the water. This eco-friendly home design will not be the last of it’s kind!
This house is just as luxurious as it is sustainable. The home includes: a grandiose, in-ground swimming pool with a retractable, recycled cover, energy star rated kitchen appliances, automatic lighting controls, beautiful ceramic and natural stone floors, a steam room, an automatic smart panel allowing control over ever facet of the house from a mobile device and a 1,300 sq.ft. apartment on the top floor with the same elements found in the main home.
